Glossary of Terms - L
All terms listed herein are defined according to their usage within the context of the SCJ Bible Study.
Lamb, The (Figurative) Jesus, who is the sacrificial lamb that atones for sins and leads His people. His “flesh and blood” represent His life-giving words. John 1:29, John 6:53-57, John 6:63, John 6:68. John 1:29. Referenced Lesson: 106.
Lamp (Figurative) Represents the Word (Bible/God’s Word), which serves as light and provides understanding. It provides a small light during darkness, preparing the way for a greater light. John the Baptist was a lamp that burned and gave light. Believers need to prepare the lamp, oil, and wedding clothes. The Bible is a lamp. Psalm 119:105, John 5:35, John 1:23. Lampstand (Figurative) Represents spirits and workers (people) who are given the duty to shine spiritual light. A collection of lamps connected into one structure. In Moses’ Tabernacle, it was a copy and shadow of heavenly realities. In Revelation, the seven golden lampstands represent the seven churches and their angels. Two olive trees are two lampstands (two witnesses). Revelation 1:20, Exodus 25:8-9, Exodus 27:20-21, Hebrews 9:1-9, Hebrews 8:5, Revelation 4:1-5, Revelation 11:1-4. Referenced Lesson: 28.
Land (Disappearing) Represents the “first heaven and first earth” or traditional churches that pass away.
Land (Figurative) Represents people. It is also truth.
Language (Figurative) Symbolizes doctrines or teachings. Referenced Lesson: 98.
Last Trumpet The seventh trumpet in Revelation, which announces salvation, resurrection, and the coming of God’s Kingdom. It signifies that the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of God. Revelation 11:15, 1 Corinthians 15:51-54.
Law (God’s) The instructions and commandments God gives to His people, intended to be put into their minds and hearts. It is also referred to as God’s Word, and is inseparable from God Himself. Deuteronomy 6:5-9, Psalms 119:105, John 1:1.
Law of Revelation (New Covenant) The specific instructions and prophecies in the book of Revelation that believers must keep at the Second Coming.
Laying on of Hands An elementary teaching or basic practice in Christianity. Hebrews 6:1-3.
Leaves (Figurative) Represent evangelists, those who bring healing to the nations by spreading the Word of God. They bring water of life to all nations who are drunk with maddening wine. Ezekiel 47:12, Revelation 22:2. Referenced Lesson: 130.
Letters of Repentance Letters sent by Jesus, delivered through New John, to the seven stars (messengers of the 7 churches) to call them to repentance. They contained “what John saw, what is now, and what will take place later.” When unheeded, they led to destruction.
Leviathan A symbolic representation of Satan’s world or domain. Daniel 7:3-17.
Lie Falsehood or deception, often used by Satan to lead people astray. Satan is the father of lies. John 8:44.
Life (Figurative) The state of being connected to God through His Word, leading to eternal existence.
Light (Figurative) Represents the Word of Life, understanding, and knowledge of God. It illuminates and exposes darkness (ignorance). Jesus is the ultimate light. “Children of Light” are those who are alert, saved, and carry out their faith according to God’s will. Light illuminates, gives life, and separates light from darkness. The unfolding of God’s words gives light and understanding. John 1:1-4, John 12:46, Matthew 5:14, Ephesians 5:8-9, Isaiah 9:1-2, Matthew 4:12-17, John 8:12. Referenced Lesson: 26, 27.
Lion, Leopard, Bear (spiritual) Represent destroyers, symbolizing the destructive nature of the beast. The beast from the sea had characteristics of these animals.
Living Creatures (Four) (Figurative) Represent the four archangels (cherubs/commanders) in heaven, who have specific duties and command other angels (winds). They are depicted with multiple faces (lion, ox, man, eagle) representing their roles. They are alive and possess breath (the word of life). Their “eyes” represent spirits. They give commands to other angels. They are also referred to as a “wheel” (representing many spirits surrounding them) and execute judgment in Revelation 6. They represent an organization like the Kingdom of Heaven in the spiritual world established in the physical world. Revelation 4:6-8, Ezekiel 1:4-10, Ezekiel 10:12-15, Revelation 5:6, Revelation 6.
Locusts (Figurative) Represents destroyers, specifically the Nicolaitans or the beast with seven heads and ten horns, who destroy people with false teachings. They come out of the smoke from the Abyss. They were told not to harm the sealed but only to torture for five months those without God’s seal. Bible Verses: Revelation 9:3-6, Joel 1:2-7. Lord’s Prayer A prophecy revealing God’s will and important things to keep in mind for the Second Coming. Referenced Lesson: 75.
Lot’s Wife An example of someone who couldn’t forget her old ways and was punished as a result. Genesis 19.
Love A fundamental characteristic of God and His true followers, demonstrated through forgiveness, blessing, and teaching.
Lowly Things Individuals or places that the world despises, but whom God chooses to work through to shame the wise and powerful.
Lukewarm (Spiritual) Neither cold nor hot, a state of spiritual indifference. Revelation 3:16.
