Glossary of Terms - E
All terms listed herein are defined according to their usage within the context of the SCJ Bible Study.
Ear (Figurative) The ability to understand and perceive spiritual truths when hearing the Word. Job 34:3-4.
Earth (Figurative) Figuratively represents people, specifically the “flesh” or “saints” belonging to God. In Revelation, the “first earth” refers to the tabernacle of the first chosen people who pass away, and the “new earth” refers to the place where God’s harvested people will dwell. It can also represent a person. Isaiah 1:2, 10, Matthew 13:37-39. Referenced Lesson: 57.
Earthquake (Figurative) A figurative shaking of a person’s heart or a spiritual organization due to impactful events or revelations. Matthew 24:7.
Eating (Figurative) Consuming spiritual food, which involves hearing, understanding, and believing the Word of God. To “eat” Jesus’ flesh and “drink” His blood means to listen to and accept His words, which bring eternal life.
Eden, Garden of God’s original dwelling place with Adam and Eve, where they had access to the Tree of Life but were tempted by the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. It is a figurative representation of Earth, Adam’s kingdom. Referenced Lesson: 69.
Education Essential for transformation, cleansing, and becoming part of God’s kingdom. It is one of the seven essential principles believers must maintain (SEEVMO).
Egypt The land where Abraham’s descendants were enslaved, fulfilling God’s prophecy. Figuratively, it can represent Babylon or the corrupted world.
Eight (8) Steps of Creation and Recreation The fundamental logic of how creation and recreation transpire in the Bible, repeating throughout history. It is a more detailed representation of rebellion, destruction, and salvation. The steps are: 1. Selection of a Pastor, 2. Creation of a Kingdom, 3. Covenant with the Chosen People, 4. Betrayal of the Covenant by the Chosen People and Destruction, 5. Selection of a New Pastor, 6. Judgment and Salvation, 7. Creation of a New Kingdom, 8. New Covenant. Referenced Lesson: 69.
Elders (24) Serve as administrators of heaven, surrounding God’s throne. Revelation 4:4, Revelation 11:16, Revelation 19:4.
Elect (The) Those chosen by God, who will be gathered at the Second Coming. This is based on their choice to believe and obey God. It refers to the 144,000 and the great multitude in white, who together form the 12 tribes of new spiritual Israel. Matthew 24:31. Referenced Lesson: 108.
Elementary Teachings Basic Christian doctrines that are foundational but not the full depth of God’s word. These are often the focus of traditional churches today. Examples include repentance, faith, baptism, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. They are considered “history and moral teachings” in the context of the Bible’s content. Hebrews 6:1-3. Referenced Lesson: 93.
Elijah A prophet who disappeared in a fiery chariot. Figuratively, his spirit and power were manifested through John the Baptist. Malachi 4:5-6, Matthew 17:10-13.
Emmaus The road where two disciples walked with Jesus, unaware of His identity, until He explained the Scriptures to them. Luke 24:13-35.
End of the Age / End Times / Last Days Refers to the time of fulfillment, when prophecies, tongues, and knowledge will cease, replaced by actual reality. It is also the time of harvest, when the two types of seed (wheat and weeds) are separated. Bible Verses: Matthew 13:39, 1 Corinthians 13:8-12. Referenced Lesson: 98.
End from the Beginning God’s ability to make known the end from the beginning (the future from ancient times). God reveals this through visions given to His chosen witnesses. This concept underscores the consistency of God’s logic throughout the Bible. Isaiah 46:10.
Endurance (Faith of) The ability to persevere through trials and sufferings according to God’s will, without being surprised or deterred by them. It involves committing oneself to God and continuing to do good despite hardships. It is a call to perseverance even when studies are long or difficult. 1 Peter 4:12-13, 1 Peter 4:19, Romans 8:18, Revelation 3:10, Revelation 13:10.
Enlightened To receive understanding and knowledge, particularly of the open word. Hebrews 6:4.
Enmity War or conflict between offspring, particularly between the serpent’s offspring and the woman’s offspring.
Envoy A messenger who relays a message to an enemy side during wartime, typically receiving special protections.
Ephesus (Church in) One of the seven churches in Revelation to whom Jesus sends letters, rebuking them for forsaking their first love. Revelation 2.
Esau The older son of Isaac, whose birthright was taken by his younger brother Jacob, illustrating the “first will be last, and the last will be first” principle. Genesis 25.
Eternal Gospel The testimony of Revelation’s fulfillment, including the identities and actions of the betrayers and destroyers. This gospel will be eternally taught to all nations, tribes, and languages, leaving no excuse for not having heard it.
Eternal Judgment A teaching referring to the final judgment where individuals face consequences for their actions, leading to eternal punishment. It is one of the elementary teachings.
Eternal Life The ultimate purpose of God’s plan and His greatest gift, achieved through knowing God and Jesus Christ, and by being born again of God’s imperishable Word. It means living with God in Heaven forever, free from death, mourning, crying, and pain. This is attained by eating Jesus’ flesh and blood (His words). John 17:3, Romans 6:23, Revelation 21:4, John 6:54. Referenced Lesson: 2, 3, 9.
Ethiopian Eunuch A man who, despite his intelligence and zeal, did not understand the Scriptures until Philip explained them, demonstrating the need for the “oil” or word of testimony. Acts 8.
Eve The first woman created by God, who was deceived by the serpent and ate from the forbidden tree, leading to sin entering the world.
Evangelism The act of “delivering the way” (Jun-do), like “fishers of men,” spreading the word to others. It is proof of connection to the Tree of Life and Jesus. It is a way to repay the grace received, proof of connection to Jesus, and following Jesus’ example. “Be fruitful and multiply” spiritually means to evangelize and transform others into God’s people. Matthew 4:19.
Evangelists (Figurative) The leaves of the Tree of Life, who preach the word of life to heal the nations. Bible Verses: Ezekiel 47:12, Revelation 22:2. Referenced Lesson: 130.
Evangelists (Figurative Moon) Represented by the “moon” in figurative language, evangelists reflect the light (Word) received from the “sun” (pastor) and shine it into the “night” (darkness of the world) to bring people to God’s “day” (understanding). They are likened to “leaves” of the tree of life, who bring healing to the nations by spreading the Word of God. Daniel 12:3, Ezekiel 47:12, Revelation 22:2.
Evil (Origin of) Did not exist in the beginning; originated from Satan’s choice through pride and greed, desiring to be like God. Bible Verses: Isaiah 14:12-15, Ezekiel 28:11-19. Referenced Lesson: 4.
Evil One (The) Satan or the devil.
Eye (Figurative) Represents spirits. The ability to see or understand spiritual truth. Bible Verses: Revelation 4:5, Isaiah 29:10. Referenced Lesson: 28.
Eyesight (Figurative) The ability to understand and perceive spiritual truths.
Exodus The historical event of the Israelites’ deliverance from slavery in Egypt under Moses.
Exodus (Book of) A book in the Old Testament detailing the Israelites’ departure from Egypt and the giving of the Law.
Exposing (Satan) Revealing Satan’s workings and deceptions through truth and testimony.
Ezekiel An Old Testament prophet who received sealed visions about the future. He was commanded to eat a scroll, symbolizing the receiving and testifying of God’s Word. Ezekiel 2:1,8-10, Ezekiel 3:1-4.
