Glossary of Terms - C
All terms listed herein are defined according to their usage within the context of the SCJ Bible Study.
Caesarea A Roman city where Paul was brought before the governor.
Cain The first son of Adam and Eve, who murdered his brother Abel due to jealousy and belonging to the evil one. 1 John 3:12.
Calamity Suffering or tribulation, prophesied to occur before the end of the age. Matthew 24:8.
Canaan The promised land given to Abraham’s descendants, but also refers to the cursed lineage of Ham. Referenced Lesson: 69.
Carcass A figurative term representing a place or people that have spiritually died, attracting evil spirits (vultures). Matthew 24:28.
Cargo (spiritual) Represents doctrines, ecclesiastical laws, commentaries, and organizational leaders that no one will buy anymore after Babylon’s judgment.
Carnelian A precious stone described in Revelation 4:3, representing an aspect of God’s appearance. Revelation 4:3.
Caves and Rocks Figurative representations of Babylon’s organizations and churches where there is no light, and people flee to these locations for refuge.
Celestial Bodies (Figurative) The sun, moon, and stars, which represent chosen people or leaders who lose their position of authority when they “go dark and fall.” Genesis 37:9-11, Joel 2, Matthew 24:29-31.
Censer (Figurative) Represents a person or one’s heart, a container for God’s fire (word) and incense (prayers). Bible Verses: Acts 9:15, Revelation 5:8, Psalms 141:2. Referenced Lesson: 24.
Censer (Golden) Represents New John, who acts as a container for the prayers of the saints, through whom God’s answers to prayers are fulfilled. The smoke from the censer represents those prayers being lifted up to God. Revelation 8:3.
Centurion (Roman) A Roman military officer whose great faith Jesus praised.
Chaff Plants with no seed, meaning it is very light and can blow away easily, representing those who will be burned at harvest. In judgment, it represents those who are destroyed. Bible Verses: Matthew 3:12. Referenced Lesson: 1.
Chairman (Lee Man-hee) A title for the leader of an assembly, specifically referring to the New John in the context of Shincheonji. His name means “full of light” or “complete light.” He is a servant, different from Jesus, who prays for God’s guidance and leads the people. He is the one who saw and heard everything taking place and becomes the “trumpet” for salvation.
Characteristics of God’s People Able to testify to fulfilled prophecies, understand and explain parables, align creative abilities with God’s instructions, and will be at war. They are persecuted. Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 18:18-22, Hosea 12:10, Exodus 25:8-9, Matthew 5:10-12. Referenced Lesson: 6.
Characteristics of Satan’s People Pretend and lie, cannot testify, twist and distort the word, persecute and kill. They do not know that Satan is working through them. Bible Verses: John 8:44, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, 1 Corinthians 2:6-8, John 16:1-4. Referenced Lesson: 6.
Cherub (Guardian) A high-ranking angel, such as Satan before his fall. Ezekiel 28:14.
Children of God Those who are born of God’s seed (His Word) and receive His inheritance. They are revealed at the end times and receive God’s inheritance (heaven and eternal life) by fighting and overcoming the devil. Romans 8:19, Revelation 7, Revelation 14, Revelation 12:9-11.
Children of the Devil Those who are influenced by Satan and carry out his desires, born of Satan’s “weed” seed (lies). John 8:44.
Children of the Flesh Those born in the ordinary way, often persecuting the sons of promise.
Children of the Promise Those who are born by the power of the Spirit, chosen by God to inherit His promises. Galatians 4:28.
Chosen People Those selected by God to receive His covenant and carry out His will. Referenced Lesson: 70.
Christian Stewardship Training Center (CSTC) / Stewardship Education Center (SEC) An organization established by the Korean government to “stamp out” groups they considered strange. Identified as the Beast from the Sea (Mr. Tak) and the headquarters of the destroyers. It is symbolically the “outer court” of the Temple given to the Gentiles, which is “trampled on” for 42 months due to betrayal. It represents Satan’s organization and the headquarters of the destroyers. Mr. Tak was its director. Referenced Lesson: 103, 115.
Church (Figurative) On a large scale, the field where both good and evil seeds are sown. It also represents a gathering place of many people or a spiritual “nation.” Figuratively represented as a field, mountain, cooking pot, ship, or temple. In Revelation, the seven churches represent seven people in one spiritual nation. 1 Corinthians 3:9, Matthew 13:38, Ezekiel 11:3, Matthew 5:14. Referenced Lesson: 1, 15.
Church of Jesus Part of the full name of Mount Zion, signifying that Jesus is the owner and founder.
Church Registry The Book of Life, a physical book kept by the early church to record God’s people.
City of Righteousness A future designation for Zion after its redemption. Isaiah 1:26.
Clay A raw material used to form a container, figuratively representing humanity before God breathes life (His Word) into them.
Cleansing (Spiritual) The purification of one’s heart, actions, and doctrines through the Word of God. John 15:3.
Clothes (Figurative) Represent one’s heart, actions, and doctrines. “Wedding clothes” (fine linen, white robes) signify righteous acts and are necessary for entry into the Kingdom of Heaven. “Washing robes” means repenting and changing one’s heart and actions through God’s Word. Wedding clothes symbolize righteous actions. Satan also has “clothes” representing his false doctrines. Clouds (Figurative) Represents spirits. Symbolizes the invisible spiritual world, representing spiritual beings or a symbol of God’s presence. In Revelation 10:1, the mighty angel is robed in a cloud. Jesus comes with clouds, meaning spiritually with many spirits. Hebrews 12:1, Ezekiel 1:4, Revelation 10:1. Referenced Lesson: 100.
Complete Faith Believing in both prophecy and its fulfillment. Referenced Lesson: 100.
Consequences of Covenant Blessings for keeping the covenant, curses for breaking it. God keeps all promises, even unpleasant ones. Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 28. Referenced Lesson: 72.
Club (of God’s Wrath) Assyria, a Gentile nation, used figuratively as God’s instrument of judgment. Isaiah 10:5.
Coercive Conversion A practice in Babylon where families attempt forced conversion, sometimes leading to tragic outcomes.
Commentaries Human interpretations of the Bible, often considered “Satan’s food” or “maddening wine” because they can distort the true meaning. They are likened to maddening wine, making people “drunker than before” with thousands of different, often conflicting, opinions. They are the “fruit” produced by the false vine of Babylon. Revelation 18:2-3.
Communion A practice of remembrance of Jesus’s sacrifice, but its true power lies in the promise it represents. Luke 22:19.
Completion The state when God’s plan is fully realized, and His prophecies are entirely fulfilled.
Conditional Blessings God’s blessings that are not unconditional; there are conditions one must meet to receive them. Revelation 1:3 states that those who believe and keep the new covenant will receive blessings. Revelation 1:3.
Conditional Statement Refers to covenants that depend on human obedience for blessings to be received, often indicated by “if.”
Conflict See War.
Congregation Members Figuratively represented as “peoples” in Revelation 17:15 and 1 Peter 2:9. They are also referred to as “saints” or “inhabitants of the earth.” Revelation 17:15, 1 Peter 2:9.
Contentment A sign of spiritual maturity, enabling a believer to remain steadfast regardless of circumstances. Philippians 4:11-13.
Convert One who is won over to a new faith or belief system.
Cooking Pot (Figurative) Symbolizes a church or a gathering place of believers. The “meat” inside represents the people, the “fire” is God’s Word, and the “wood” represents leaders or pastors who prepare the people. There are two types: God’s pot (holy, transforming people into His image) and Satan’s pot (encrusted, corrupting people with lies). God’s pot transforms people into God’s image, while Satan’s pot molds them into Satan’s image. Jeremiah 1:13, Ezekiel 11:3, Matthew 5:13-16, Jeremiah 5:14, Ezekiel 24:3-6, Micah 3:1-3, 11, Matthew 23:15, Zechariah 14:20-21.
Corinthians (Church in) An early church rebuked by Paul for internal quarreling and acting worldly, showing their immaturity. 1 Corinthians 3:1-4.
Corruption A state of spiritual decay or impurity, often resulting from disobeying God’s covenant.
Counselor One who teaches and protects with grace. Jesus was the first counselor, and “another counselor” (the Spirit of Truth) is promised for the Second Coming. 1 John 2:1, John 14:16.
Covenant A serious promise or agreement between God and humans, serving as the foundation of the Bible. It signifies recreation of the heart and God starting anew with a new people. Its five parts are: Subject, Content (law and prophecy), Time Made, Time Kept, and Consequences (blessings/curses). It consists of both law (daily instructions) and prophecy (promises to be fulfilled at a specific time). God always keeps His part of the covenant by fulfilling His promises. Covenant (Broken) When God’s chosen people fail to keep their end of the covenant, leading to consequences.
Covenant Ring A symbol used in the design of the covenant, reflecting the colors of the gemstones of the tribes.
COVID-19 Pandemic Identified as the actual reality of the Great Tribulation, described as a “last hurdle.”
Creation God’s initial act of bringing something into existence, both physical and spiritual.
Creation (God’s) God’s initial work, which was perfect but corrupted by the fall of Adam and Eve. God created everything with a purpose. The four steps of Creation are: Selection of a Pastor, Creation of a Kingdom, Covenant with the Chosen People, and Betrayal of the Covenant and Destruction. Bible Verses: Genesis 1:1, John 1:1-4. Creation (God’s Pattern of) God consistently works through specific steps: selecting a pastor, creating a kingdom, establishing a covenant, which is then often broken, leading to recreation.
Creation (Subjected to Decay) The physical world, along with humanity, has been affected by sin and is awaiting redemption. Romans 8:19-22.
Crown (of Gold) A characteristic of the Son of Man in Revelation 14:14, symbolizing authority. In Revelation 9:7, crowns of gold on locusts’ heads represent their position. It represents a job or duty, specifically a teaching authority to guide and serve, rather than a literal ruling authority. Revelation 14:14, Revelation 9:7.
Crown (of Life) A blessing promised to the one who overcomes, representing eternal life and duty. Revelation 3:12.
Crown of Life Represents eternal life, but also signifies duty and responsibility. Bible Verses: James 1:12, Revelation 2:10. Referenced Lesson: 102.
Crying (Spiritual) A physical manifestation of spiritual pain and sorrow that will cease in God’s Kingdom. Revelation 21:4.
Cult A false group or lies, representing the Devil and the Devil’s kingdom of Babylon. Its origin is in the spiritual world when Satan rebelled against God. A colloquial term often misused to describe a false group or lies, but biblically originates from Satan’s rebellion in the spiritual world. Referenced Lesson: 65, 66.
Curses Negative consequences for disobeying God’s covenant. Deuteronomy 28:15-68.
