Glossary of Terms - F
All terms listed herein are defined according to their usage within the context of the SCJ Bible Study.
Faith Confidence in what is hoped for and assurance about what is not seen. It comes from hearing the message, which is the word about Christ. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. True faith is based on knowledge, not just feeling good or hoping and leads to action. It needs to be protected and strengthened by the full armor of God (the Word). Genuine faith is proven true through trials and perseverance. A lack of faith is often due to misunderstanding or misinterpretation of God’s Word, leading to rejection of truth. Faithful and Wise Servant A promised pastor at the Second Coming who gives food (the open word) at the proper time. This servant is identified as New John. Matthew 24:45-47.
False Pastor Pastors who belong to Satan and work to hinder and lie about the truth, often without realizing they are doing so. They may appear as angels of light. Examples include Pharisees and Sadducees. Bible Verses: 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, John 16:1-4. Referenced Lesson: 68, 73.
False Revelation Revelation that comes from Satan, intended to mislead people away from the correct understanding. These often come from false visions. Bible Verses: Jeremiah 14:14. Referenced Lesson: 98.
Famine (Figurative) A lack of God’s Word or truth, leading to spiritual hunger. It means God’s Word is not openly available, and people struggle to find it. Amos 8:11. Referenced Lesson: 18.
Father (God as) A relationship based on having God’s “seed” (His Word) within one’s heart.
Fatherless (Figurative) Congregation members of a pastor who has betrayed God, making the congregation “fatherless” spiritually.
Felix The Roman governor before whom Paul was brought to trial.
Field (Figurative) On a small scale, it represents a person’s heart where the Word (seed) is sown. On a large scale, it represents the world or the church where both truth (wheat) and lies (weeds) grow together until harvest, it represents the world or Jesus’s world (the church). There are four types of fields (path, rocky, thorny, good soil) representing different responses to the Word. It can also represent the world of believers. Fig Tree Used in a parable by Jesus to teach about discerning the signs of the times. Matthew 24:32-33.
Filial Duty The responsibility of a child to their parent, spiritually applied to a believer’s obedience to God.
Fire (Figurative) Represents the word of God. It can either refine or destroy. It has two main purposes: to refine/purify (God’s fire of truth) or to destroy/judge (Satan’s fire of lies). “Fire judgment” refers to spiritual judgment by the Word. “Fire baptism” is a purifying experience by the Word. Fire Baptism Baptism of the word that refines us. Bible Verses: Isaiah 6:6-7. Referenced Lesson: 23.
Fire Judgment The word that judges us, burning up the arrogant and evildoers. Bible Verses: Malachi 4:1-2. Referenced Lesson: 23.
Firstborn (Figurative) Refers to the first among the redeemed, specifically the church of the firstborn. Hebrews 12:23.
First and Last Signifies beginning and end; represents prophecy and fulfillment. It refers to both God and Jesus. Bible Verses: Revelation 1:8, Revelation 22:13, Revelation 19:10. Referenced Lesson: 102.
First Coming The era when Jesus appeared, fulfilling Old Testament prophecies. It marked the end of the old covenant era and the beginning of a new one. Referenced Lesson: 9.
First Fruits The initial group of individuals dedicated to God, representing the first and best of the harvest. In the context of the Second Coming, the 144,000 are identified as firstfruits offered to God. They are the cream of the crop. James 1:18, Revelation 14:3-5.
First Heaven and First Earth Figurative representation of the old spiritual order or traditional churches that pass away at the Second Coming. It represents the Tabernacle Temple and its congregation members, which were the “heaven” that betrayed and were destroyed. This first heaven and earth are almost complete in their passing away. First King (Israel) King Saul.
First Resurrection A significant event where the souls of the martyrs unite with those who are living (the overcomers), and they reign with Christ for a thousand years. Participants include God, Jesus, the 12 disciples, and the martyrs in heaven. It occurs at the sound of the 7th trumpet. Those who participate are spared from the second death. It is the spiritual and physical transformation of believers, where perishable bodies are clothed with imperishable ones, and death is overcome. Revelation 20:4-6, 1 Corinthians 15:51-54. Fish (Figurative) Represents people, or “saints” who need salvation. They live in the “sea” (the world under Satan’s control) and are “caught” by the “net” (the Word) by “fishermen” (pastors/evangelists) to be separated (sifted) into good and bad. Good fish are the righteous, and bad fish are the wicked, who are separated at harvest. Matthew 13:47-50, Matthew 4:19, Habakkuk 1:14-17. Referenced Lesson: 36.
Fisherman (Figurative) Represents pastors or evangelists who do the work of “catching” people with the “net” (the Word) to bring them into the “ship” (the church). Spiritual fishing occurs when one with the Word delivers it to people, “pulling them from their comfortable place into a better place.” Matthew 4:19. Referenced Lesson: 36.
Flesh (Figurative) People or workers. Bible Verses: Isaiah 31:3. Referenced Lesson: 107. Learn More: Spirit and Flesh.
Flesh and Blood of the Lamb (Figurative) Represents Jesus’ Words of Life. To “eat” His flesh and “drink” His blood means to listen to and accept His words, which bring eternal life and allow one to “pass over” from death to life. This concept originates from the Passover in the Old Testament. John 1:29, John 6:53-57, John 6:63, John 5:24, Exodus 12:1-14.
Flee to the Mountain A spiritual action of leaving a corrupt spiritual environment (Babylon) and gathering at Mount Zion.
Flood (Noah’s) A physical judgment upon the old world, symbolizing destruction and the beginning of a new creation.
Food (Figurative) Symbolizes the Word of God. There are two types: God’s food (life-giving Word) and Satan’s food (lies, leading to death). “Food at the proper time” refers to God’s Word being opened and explained at the appropriate time. Matthew 24:45-47, Deuteronomy 8:3, John 6:63, Amos 8:11, Revelation 2:17, Revelation 18:2-3, Job 34:3-4, Isaiah 55:1-3. Referenced Lesson: 18.
Food at the Proper Time The word of God being opened and explained at the appropriate time, allowing for understanding and application. It is also called Hidden Manna or the revealed/opened word. Bible Verses: Matthew 24:45-47, Revelation 2:17, Revelation 10:8-11. Referenced Lesson: 18.
Food Sacrificed to Idols Represents Satan’s teachings or false doctrine. These corrupted teachings were forced upon people, leading to destruction. Bible Verses: Revelation 2:14. Referenced Lesson: 102.
Foolish Virgins Believers who are waiting for Christ but lack sufficient “oil” (word of testimony), leading to their exclusion from the wedding banquet. They have the lamp (the Word/Bible), but the oil is the difference. Matthew 25:1-13.
Forgiveness Critically important to be forgiven; involves releasing lingering animosities or struggles with another person. A crucial spiritual practice, necessary for one’s own sins to be forgiven. Bible Verses: Matthew 6:12, Matthew 18:21-35. Referenced Lesson: 75.
Former Heaven See First Heaven and First Earth.
Four Fields (Parable of the Sower) Represents different heart conditions or responses to hearing God’s word. The Path hears the word but lacks understanding; Satan snatches it away. The Rocky Field receives the word with joy but has no root; withers under persecution. The Thorny Field hears the word but is choked by life’s worries, pleasures, and deceitfulness of wealth. The Good Soil hears, retains, and perseveres to produce a crop; represents overcomers. Bible Verses: Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23, Luke 8:4-15. Referenced Lesson: 16, 75.
Four Fields (Soils) Represent the four heart conditions of one who has received the seed (the Word of God). These are the Path, Rocky Ground, Thorny Ground, and Good Soil. They describe how people respond to the explanation of heaven’s secrets. Matthew 13:4-8, Matthew 13:18-23, Mark 4:4-8, Mark 4:14-20, Luke 8:5-8, Luke 8:11-15.
Four Living Creatures / Four Chariots Represent the four archangels (cherubs/commanders) in heaven, who have specific duties and command other angels (winds). They are depicted with multiple faces (lion, ox, man, eagle) representing their roles. They are also referred to as a “wheel” (representing many spirits surrounding them) and execute judgment in Revelation 6. They represent an organization like the Kingdom of Heaven in the spiritual world established in the physical world. Revelation 4:6-8, Ezekiel 1:4-10, Ezekiel 10:12-15, Revelation 6. Fruit (Figurative) The word of God. It can also represent saints born of the word, or a person’s words and actions. Represents words (truth or lies) or spiritual children (saints born of the Word). It refers to spiritual fruitfulness that mature followers of Christ bear. James 1:18, Matthew 12:33-35. Referenced Lesson: 17.
Fulfillment The actual reality or event of a prophecy coming to pass. It sets the Bible apart from other religious texts because it documents prophecies that have come true. Fulfillment is how God’s Word is “opened” and understood. It ends arguments and speculation. A true fulfillment includes the who, what, when, where, why, and how (5Ws and 1H).
