Glossary of Terms - S

All terms listed herein are defined according to their usage within the context of the SCJ Bible Study.

Sabbath A day of rest. Figuratively, it refers to God’s ultimate rest after completing His work of recreation.

Sacred Oaks (Figurative) Represents false pastors. Referenced Lesson: 70.

Sacrifice An offering made to God for atonement, initially through animals, and ultimately through Jesus Christ.

Sackcloth Represents the work of repentance.

Sadducees A Jewish religious sect during Jesus’s time, who did not believe in the resurrection, and who were among those who persecuted Jesus. They were considered “whitewashed tombs” (spiritual graves) and acted as false shepherds, misleading people with their teachings.

Saints (Congregation Members) Represented by the “stars” in figurative language, saints are members of a church who are meant to shine brightly by embodying and spreading God’s opened Word. They are also referred to as “peoples” or “inhabitants of the earth.”

Salvation One of the three main events of Revelation, following betrayal and destruction. It is the work of New John and the 12 tribes, calling people out of Babylon to Zion. Bible Verses: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3. Referenced Lesson: 98.

Salvation God’s ultimate purpose for His people, leading to eternal life and freedom from sin and Satan’s control. It is brought by Jesus’ Second Coming. It’s the final step in the cycle of rebellion, destruction, and salvation. It is a destination. John 17:3, John 6:40, Romans 6:23.

Salt (Figurative) Believers who have a preserving, flavoring influence on the world. Bible Verses: Matthew 5:13-16. Referenced Lesson: 25.

Sanctify To separate or set aside, to concentrate, or make holy. Bible Verses: John 17:17. Referenced Lesson: 3.

Sanhedrin The Jewish ruling council during Jesus’s time, composed of Pharisees and Sadducees, who opposed Jesus.

Sarah Abraham’s wife, who gave birth to Isaac through God’s promise.

Satan Originally a high-ranking guardian cherub angel created by God, but fell due to pride and greed, rebelling against God. He is the ancient serpent, the devil, and the father of lies. His goal is to destroy God’s plan and people. Bible Verses: Genesis 3:1, Revelation 20:2, Isaiah 14:12-15, Ezekiel 28:11-19. Referenced Lesson: 4, 5.

Satan (Devil) A created being, once a high-ranking angel (Lucifer/Morning Star) who became evil due to pride and a desire to be like God. He is the enemy who sows bad seed (lies), a liar and the father of lies, seeking to deceive and destroy God’s people. He actively works in churches and seeks to tempt believers. He is the origin of heresy. He is darkness. He is the gardener of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (Babylon). He deceives the world. He works hardest where God is working. He will be captured by the word of testimony and bound for a thousand years. Genesis 3:1, Revelation 20:2, 1 Peter 5:8, Isaiah 14:12-15, Ezekiel 28:11-19, John 8:44, Luke 22:3, 2 Thessalonians 2:4, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, John 1:5, Revelation 12:9.

Satan’s Food Twisted words of God, false teachings, wine of adulteries, or food sacrificed to idols, which lead to spiritual death. Bible Verses: Revelation 2:14-15, Revelation 18:2-3. Referenced Lesson: 18, 82.

Satan’s Pot An encrusted pot (city of bloodshed) where leaders (wood) cook people (meat) with falsehoods (fire), offering them to Satan. Represents churches/synagogues that deviate from God’s will. Bible Verses: Ezekiel 24:3-6, Micah 3:1-3,11, Matthew 23:15. Referenced Lesson: 25.

Scatterer (Satan as) Satan’s tactic of causing division and leading people away from God’s truth.

Scales (Figurative) Represents the word of God, which serves as a standard of judgment, it used as a tool for weighing one’s faith and deeds (actions). They are a symbol of judgment. Types are God’s honest scales and Satan’s dishonest scales. Revelation 6:5-6, Proverbs 24:12, 1 Samuel 2:2-3, 1 Samuel 16:7, Job 31:6, Daniel 5:25-30, John 12:48, Hebrews 4:12, Revelation 20:12, Proverbs 11:1, Proverbs 30:5-8, Revelation 22:18-19. Scripture Testifies about Jesus. It is the standard to test teachings and spirits. It serves as a guide, is the Word of God, and is God-breathed. John 1:1, John 17:17, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21.

Scroll (Sealed / Open) Represents the Book of Revelation, sealed with seven seals and containing God’s secrets (prophecies). When opened, it signifies the fulfillment of prophecy and understanding. Bible Verses: Revelation 5:1-3, Isaiah 29:9-13, Ezekiel 2:8-10, Revelation 10:1-2. Referenced Lesson: 106, 71.

Sea (Figurative) Represents the “world,” specifically the world under Satan’s control, filled with mixed, undrinkable “water” (false teachings) and spiritual darkness. At the Second Coming, it refers to “Babylon” from which God’s people must come out. It is a place of much undrinkable water from mixed sources. When there is a new heaven and new earth, Satan’s world of falsehood (the sea) goes away. Matthew 13:47-50, Daniel 7:3, Psalms 74:13-14, Revelation 20:2, 1 John 5:19, Amos 8:11-12, John 8:41-44, Matthew 23:15, 28, Revelation 13:1-2, Revelation 17:15, Revelation 18:2-4, Revelation 21:1. Sea of Glass Represents God’s perfect and clear word, without blemish, which washes one’s inner being. It is described as clear as crystal, symbolizing the depth, boundlessness, and clarity of God’s flawless Word. Those who overcame gather by it. Revelation 4:5-6, Ezekiel 47:8-11, Exodus 38:8. Seal (God’s Figurative) Represents God’s word of truth, which stamps certification, ownership, or approval on someone. It confirms who belongs to God. Bible Verses: Haggai 2:23, Ephesians 1:13. Referenced Lesson: 48.

Sealed (The Word) The state of prophecy before its fulfillment, where its full meaning cannot be understood. Bible Verses: Daniel 12:8-10, Isaiah 29:9-13. Referenced Lesson: 13.

Sealed Book (Revelation as) The state of Revelation’s prophecies before their fulfillment, when their true meaning is hidden. It protects God’s plans from Satan. Isaiah 29:9-13, Amos 3:7, Matthew 13:10-11, Daniel 12:8-10.

Sealed (Spiritual) To have God’s Word deeply engraved in one’s heart and mind, leading to complete understanding and adherence to the covenant. It is like a king’s signet ring, marking one as God’s chosen. It provides protection from destruction. The purpose of sealing is to confirm God’s people by having them listen and accept the testimony of Revelation. Believers hope to be 100% sealed at the Second Coming and avoid the mark of the Beast. One must be sealed to attain salvation and reign with God forever. Revelation 7:1-4, Proverbs 7:1-3, John 1:1, John 14:23-24, John 3:31-34, Haggai 2:23, John 17:8, Hebrews 8:10-12.

Sealing The process of placing God’s word into people’s hearts and minds, enabling them to understand and keep the covenant. It confirms who belongs to God. Bible Verses: Revelation 7:2-3, Hebrews 8:10-12. Referenced Lesson: 68, 96.

Second Coming The time of Revelation’s fulfillment, when Jesus returns in spirit form, God’s kingdom comes to earth, and all remaining Bible prophecies are fulfilled. It is compared to the days of Noah and Lot. Referenced Lesson: 98.

Second Death The death of the spirit in hell. Bible Verses: Revelation 20:14. Referenced Lesson: 102.

Seed (Figurative) Represents the Word of God. It is the source code of spiritual life and produces “after its own kind.” There are two types: God’s seed (truth, leading to imperishable life) and Satan’s seed (lies, leading to perishable death). Sowing seed represents preaching and spreading God’s word. It is a foundational parable; if the meaning of the seed is not grasped, no other parable can be fully comprehended. Seven Churches Figuratively represents seven people in one spiritual nation (church) who received letters of repentance from Jesus through New John. Bible Verses: Revelation 1:4. Referenced Lesson: 100, 101.

Self-Reflection The practice of examining one’s own heart and actions in light of God’s Word to ensure alignment with His will.

Servant (Faithful and Wise) A promised pastor at the Second Coming who delivers God’s Word at the proper time. This servant is New John. Matthew 24:45-47.

Servant (Wicked) A pastor or leader who does not feed God’s people properly and beats them, leading to their destruction. Matthew 24:48.

Service Must be maintained under all circumstances. It is one of the seven essential principles believers must maintain (SEEVMO).

Shincheonji Year A unique dating system used in Shincheonji that starts from March 14, 1984, marking the beginning of the 1,000-year reign of God and Jesus.

Ship (Figurative) Represents the church or an organization, a place of salvation and deliverance for God’s righteous people. The “captain” is a pastor, and “sailors” are those who work within the church. Ships can also sink, representing churches falling into falsehood. It can also represent a branch church. It is like Noah’s Ark, a place of deliverance. Matthew 13:47-50, Genesis 7:1, Matthew 24:37-39, Revelation 8:8-9, Revelation 18:19. Referenced Lesson: 36.

Sickle (Figurative) A harvesting tool, representing a person (evangelist) used by angels to perform the spiritual harvest. Matthew 13:39, Revelation 14:14-16. Referenced Lesson: 120.

Signs of the Times Prophesied events that indicate the imminent return of Jesus and the end of the age. Matthew 24:32-33, Luke 12:54-56.

Silver (Figurative) Represents the word. Referenced Lesson: 70.

Sin A deviation from God’s perfect nature, originated from pride and greed, leading to death and corruption in the world. Jesus’ First Coming aimed to eliminate sin. It is equated with death. Romans 6:23, Ezekiel 18:4.

Sin (Freed from) A permanent state of not committing sin, achieved at the Second Coming through Jesus’s blood. Revelation 1:5-6, Revelation 5:9-10.

Sin (Remembrance of) The purpose of Old Testament sacrifices, which served as a yearly reminder of unatoned sins. Hebrews 10:3.

Sin (Problem of) The reason God had to leave His creation. It is the curse that will no longer exist in the Holy City. Referenced Lesson: 69.

Slandering God In Revelation, it means opposing the one through whom God is working (the saints of the Tabernacle Temple), or calling the one who overcomes false.

Slander Falsehoods or malicious statements against God or His people.

Smoke (Figurative) From the Abyss, it darkens the sun and sky. From the glory of God, it represents a positive manifestation of God’s work. Revelation 9:2, Revelation 15:8.

Sodom and Gomorrah Cities destroyed by God’s judgment, symbolizing places of spiritual corruption. Genesis 19.

Soil (Good) See Good Soil.

Solid Food (Figurative) Represents deeper spiritual truths, profound spiritual matters, and specifically prophecy and fulfillment. It requires a mature believer to digest. Hebrews 5:12-14.

Solomon (King) A king of Israel whose betrayal of God by worshipping false gods led to the division of the kingdom.

Solomon (Betrayal of) His idolatry broke the covenant and led to the division and destruction of Israel. Referenced Lesson: 7.

 

Song (Figurative) Represents the word of sermons or the Word that is taught. Whenever someone is speaking from the pulpit or with a Bible in hand, they are spiritually “singing” God’s words and laws. Songs have lyrics (words) and a theme (God’s decrees/laws). One must learn the song before they can sing it. Psalms 119:54, Psalms 119:172.

Song (New Song) The gospel of the fulfillment of prophecy, especially Revelation. It is sung when prophecy is being fulfilled and contains details of who, what, when, where, why, and how. It is the gospel of the fulfillment of prophecy, specifically the New Testament prophecies. It is sung when prophecies have taken place and can only be learned by the 144,000. It is a proper explanation of both the song of Moses (Old Testament) and the song of the Lamb (New Testament). Singing this song reveals the real words of Revelation’s fulfillment (betrayal, destruction, salvation). It should be heard at Mount Zion. Revelation 15:1-4, Revelation 14:3, Psalms 119:54, Psalms 119:172, Deuteronomy 31:19-21, 30, Isaiah 42:9-10, Isaiah 9:1-2, Luke 24:44.

Seven Angels In Revelation 8:2, seven angels are given seven trumpets. In Revelation 15:6, seven angels carry seven plagues (bowls).

Seven Bowls (of God’s Wrath) Represent God’s judgment being poured out on both betrayers and destroyers. They are one of the three sets of divine judgments. Revelation 15:7, Revelation 16.

Seven Seals Represents the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, or the contents of the book of Revelation, which are opened by Jesus. Referenced Lesson: 106.

Seven Stars Figurative representation of seven messengers or leaders in Revelation who initially hold a position of authority but betray God. They were Jesus’ first love. They are identified as the betrayers. Revelation 1:20, Revelation 2. Referenced Lesson: 98, 101.

Seven Thunders Figurative representation of the seven spirits before God’s throne, speaking actual words. Revelation 10:3-4.

Seventh Trumpet The last trumpet in Revelation, which announces salvation, God’s victory, the First Resurrection, and the beginning of God’s reign. This trumpet is not a physical instrument but represents a person (New John) who sees and hears everything and testifies the revealed word. Salvation cannot be achieved without hearing this. Revelation 11:15, 1 Corinthians 15:51-54. Referenced Lesson: 116.

Sexual Immorality (Spiritual) Receiving seed (teachings) that isn’t from God, equating to receiving Satan’s seed, which makes one like a “prostitute” in God’s eyes. These corrupted teachings were forced upon people, leading to destruction.

Shadow (Law as) The Old Testament law and its practices were a symbolic representation that pointed to the reality of Jesus. Hebrews 10:1.

Shepherd A pastor or leader who possesses God’s Word and is responsible for comforting, correcting, guiding, and training God’s “sheep” (believers). Psalms 23:1-4, Jeremiah 23:29, Isaiah 11:4, Matthew 15:14.

Shepherd (Promised) A pastor chosen by God to lead and feed His flock. Jesus was the promised shepherd of the Old Testament, and “New John” is the promised shepherd of the New Testament.

Shincheonji “New Heaven and New Earth” in Korean, identified as the spiritual Mount Zion where Revelation’s fulfillment occurs. Its full name is Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony.

Song of Moses Refers to the words of the Old Testament, specifically the law written by Moses in the first five books. Revelation 15:3.

Song of the Lamb Refers to the words of the New Testament (Jesus’s teachings). Revelation 15:3.

Satan’s Song Consists of false words and false testimonies, from those who have added to or subtracted from the Word. These will cease to exist when Revelation 18 is fulfilled. Revelation 18.

Son of Man Refers to Jesus, who lived out the prophecies seen by Ezekiel. Bible Verses: Ezekiel 1-3. Referenced Lesson: 98.

Sons of the Kingdom Those born of the good seed (God’s word), who accept and understand the message about the kingdom of heaven. Referenced Lesson: 75.

Sons of Light / Sons of Day Spiritually awake and prepared individuals who will not be surprised by Jesus’ second coming. They carry out their life of faith according to God’s thoughts and will. Bible Verses: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6. Referenced Lesson: 26, 27.

Sons of Night / Sons of Darkness Spiritually asleep individuals who will be surprised by Jesus’ second coming and will be destroyed. They carry out their life of faith according to their own thoughts. Bible Verses: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6. Referenced Lesson: 26, 27.

Sons of God Those who are born of God’s seed (the Word). Creation eagerly awaits their revelation at the end times. They receive God’s inheritance (heaven and eternal life) by fighting and overcoming the devil. Romans 8:19, Revelation 7, Revelation 14, Revelation 12:9-11.

Sons of Hell Those who are led astray by false teachings and do not belong to God.

Sons of the Evil One Weeds, those born of the devil’s seed (lies), growing in Jesus’s field (the world). Matthew 13:38.

Sons of the Flesh Those born in the ordinary way, often persecuting the sons of promise.

Sons of the Kingdom Those born of God’s seed (truth), growing in Jesus’s field (the world). Matthew 13:38.

Sons of the Promise Those who are born by the power of the Spirit, chosen by God to inherit His promises. Galatians 4:28.

Sorrow (Figurative) A weary state of the soul that can be strengthened by God’s Word.

Sower (Parable of) Explains how people’s hearts respond to the word of God. Bible Verses: Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23. Referenced Lesson: 16.

Sower (The) Jesus, who sows the good seed (His Word) in His field (the world). Matthew 13:24-30.

Spears (Figurative) Weapons of war, representing the word of God used for fighting, but can be turned into pruning hooks (harvesting tools). Bible Verses: Isaiah 2:4. Referenced Lesson: 70.

Spirits (Figurative) Represented by birds or clouds. They work through words, thoughts, and actions of people. Types are Holy spirits (good) and evil spirits (demons). Bible Verses: John 6:63, 1 John 4:1. Referenced Lesson: 4. Learn More: Spirit and Flesh.

Spirit (Holy Spirit) All spirits that belong to God are holy spirits. It gives life and is inseparable from the Word of God. It empowers prophets to speak God’s messages and guides believers to understand truth. John 6:63, 2 Peter 1:20-21, John 4:24.

Spirit of Truth The promised “another counselor” sent by Jesus, who guides believers into all truth and speaks only what he hears from God and Jesus. This spirit dwells in and speaks through a person. John 14:16, John 14:17, John 16:13.

Spirits (biblical context) Often used as comparisons to birds. They work through people on earth.

Spiritual Blindness People were unable to recognize Jesus at the First Coming. Isaiah 29.

Spiritual Food The Word of God. Eaten with the ears. God’s food gives eternal life. Deuteronomy 8:3.

Spiritual Sexual Immorality Receiving seed (word) from different sources other than God, equating to receiving Satan’s seed, which makes one like a “prostitute” in God’s eyes.

Spiritual Solid Food Represents deeper spiritual truths, profound spiritual matters, and specifically prophecy and fulfillment. It requires a mature believer to digest. Hebrews 5:12-14.

Spiritual War A war of words/doctrines. John 8, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Ephesians 6:10-17, Revelation 12:11.

Spring (Figurative) Represents a pastor or a temple (church) that is a source of “living water” (God’s Word) flowing from above. This water cleanses and gives eternal life. Jesus is the “source” from which those who hunger for righteousness will be filled. These “springs” flow into “rivers,” and these rivers carry the word from a high place to a low place, bringing life. Satan’s springs are “springs without water,” meaning places without the word. Proverbs 10:11, Ezekiel 47:1-2, John 4:7-14, Revelation 22:17, Revelation 22:2, Zechariah 13:1, Revelation 7:17, Revelation 21:6. Referenced Lesson: 34.

Standard of Truth The Word of God. It is immutable and unchangeable. John 1:1, John 17:17.

Star (Figurative) Represents a prophet who has fallen from heaven to earth and gives poison (false teachings). An example is Star Wormwood (Mr. Oh/Nicholas). Bible Verses: Revelation 8:10-11. Referenced Lesson: 115.

Stars (Figurative) In the spiritual world (heaven), they represent angels, who are countless and shine God’s light. In the physical world (tabernacle of chosen people), they represent congregation members or saints, who differ in brightness based on their understanding of the Word. In Genesis 37, they represent saints or congregation members. In Revelation, they can also represent angels. Daniel 12:3, Genesis 37:9-11, 1 Corinthians 15:40-41.

Stephen One of the seven deacons, martyred for his testimony of Jesus, demonstrating love and forgiveness even in persecution. Acts 7.

Stewardship Education Center (SEC) / Christian Stewardship Training Center (CSTC) An organization established to train pastors in Korea, led by Mr. Tak. Identified as the headquarters of the destroyers. Its congregation members were the “sun, moon, and stars” that were judged. It eventually “no longer exists” in its corrupted form. It is symbolically the “outer court” of the Temple given to the Gentiles, which is “trampled on” for 42 months due to betrayal.

Stone (Figurative) Represents the word of judgment and a word that carries out judgment. It also represents a pastor who receives authority to judge. Types are Cornerstone (Jesus, the first and last stone) and living stones (believers). Bible Verses: Isaiah 28:16, Psalm 118:22-24, 1 Peter 2:4-8, Matthew 21:42-46. Referenced Lesson: 45.

Stones (Figurative) Can represent people, often with weak faith if in “rocky places.” Also represents the word of God, like a cornerstone. Matthew 13:5-6, 1 Peter 2:4-8.

Subjects of the Kingdom Those who were once part of God’s Kingdom but are “thrown out” due to betrayal or disobedience. Matthew 8:12.

Sun (Figurative) Represents the pastor, who is the primary source of spiritual light (Word) within the “tabernacle” (church). In the spiritual world, God is the sun, the ultimate source of light. Psalms 84:11, Daniel 12:3.

Sun, Moon, and Stars (Falling/Darkening, Figurative) Representation of God’s chosen people losing their position of authority and falling into spiritual darkness. Their “falling” or “darkening” signifies their judgment and destruction due to betrayal and receiving false teachings. Matthew 24:29, Genesis 37:9-10. Referenced Lesson: 59, 107, 108.

Sword (Figurative) Represents the word of God, which is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword; it judges thoughts and attitudes. Bible Verses: Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12. Referenced Lesson: 102.

Synagogue of Satan Figurative term for false Jews who claim to belong to God but do not. It also refers to the Christian Stewardship Training Center. Bible Verses: Revelation 2:9, Revelation 3:9. Referenced Lesson: 102, 103.
